Employee Spotlight: Kris L.

This month our employee spotlight turns to Kris, one of the most positive, upbeat people we know. He is a great team player and a favorite co-worker in every department. In typical fashion, Kris willingly agreed to help us by taking time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions… with a smile. How long have you been with the company? I have been with Flexpress for 3 years now. But it feels like I just started a few months ago. How would you describe your duties here? I started in the bindery and I still pitch in there when needed. But I now handle the daily shipping, whether UPS, FedEx, USPS or couriers. I also assist Philip and Sandy up front from time to time and I help everyone if they have iPhone issues, especially in setting up their emails on them. What was the most unusual job you held before joining Flexpress? My first job I worked for Dominos Pizza. That was pretty interesting and an experience. I didn’t know how picky people were with pizza. LOL What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of my job is the interaction I have with … Continue reading

Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day will be observing its 42nd year of raising environmental awareness on Sunday, April 22, 2012. As spring beckons us outside to enjoy nature, it is an excellent time to stop and reflect on what we can do for the environment. It is even better when we can make changes that lessen our impact on a daily basis. We are glad to say that great strides are being made by the printing industry to that end. When people think of the environmental impact of printing they tend to think in terms of paper. This makes sense because paper is the most publicly visible component. Paper mills are indeed working hard to make positive changes through the management of sustainable forests using responsible logging practices and limiting the use of herbicides and pesticides. The Forest Stewardship Council was established to implement a stringent chain of custody procedures to ensure the cleanest, most energy efficient processing and manufacturing possible. And of course recycling remains an important part of their efforts. What is less publicized is the “greening” of the actual process of printing. Traditional offset printers are switching from petroleum-based inks to vegetable-based inks such as soybean, linseed and flax. All of … Continue reading

Employee Spotlight: David N.

Once again it is time to shine the spotlight on one of our employees and let everyone get to know a little more about the great group we’ve got here at Flexpress. This month we visit with David, one of our longest-tenured employees. David has been with us for 19 of our 20 years in business! David was kind enough to share a moment with us as he went about his busy day of keeping our computer systems running smoothly – no small feat considering the high volume of projects we handle each day. What is your official title at Flexpress? Manager of support services What was the most unusual job you held before joining Flexpress? Picking coffee in Kenya. How would you describe your duties here? Serving internal and external customers. If you could switch jobs with one person at Flexpress for the day, who would it be? I would not want to switch but if I had to it would be Sales. People sometimes assume IT guys are computer geeks. Do you think of yourself in those terms? Not really, other than the fact that I have a 5 pc network, 4 laptops, 2 iPads, x2 wireless routers … Continue reading

Expand Your Reach with Every Door Direct Mail™

Recently we discussed the personalized targeting capabilities of variable data printing in direct marketing. But what about those times when you simply don’t have a database established yet? The United States Postal Service is offering a new service that allows you to reach every customer in a chosen area without having the street addresses or even names. With Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM™) you can target areas by neighborhood, ZIP Code or city. USPS letter carriers will deliver your ad or promotion to every mailbox along the selected routes. Because they are already making those stops while delivering the daily mail the cost is extremely reasonable – as little as 14.5 cents per piece for postage. EDDM Retail is a great way to deliver coupons, offers, sales, specials and event promotions to desired audiences in a specific area. It isn’t necessary to know the names or street addresses. Just use the approved EDDM format of “Local Postal Customer”. EDDM Retail is geared to smaller businesses with smaller mailings of 5,000 maximum mail pieces per mailer per day. There is no need for a postage permit and there is no annual fee. However, there are certain size and weight restrictions. To … Continue reading

Employee Spotlight: Sue S.

Our employees are a great and diverse group of people and we want to let you know a little bit about them. This month we talk with Sue, one of the behind-the-scenes go-getters that keeps Flexpress running. If you’ve ever visited Flexpress you may have noticed a smiling, multi-tasking blur of energy zipping around getting things done. That blur is Sue. We’ve slowed her down enough to answer a few questions today and only wish you could hear the laughter in her voice as she answered them. How long have you been with Flexpress? From the beginning … 20 years. What is your official title at Flexpress? Administration. That means I do Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. I also research client solutions as needed and I’m not only always ready to assist with anything, I probably have at one point or another! Wow, that sounds like you wear a lot of hats. Prior to Flexpress, what has been the most unusual job you’ve ever held? In high school I worked in the commissary at the State Hospital. That prepared me for just about anything. Our Scratch Off Technology is a Winner

If you’ve been wishing you could streamline the production of your next scratch off promotion, you’re in luck! Thanks to our Variable Data capabilities we can print all of the varied messages and codes inline without missing a beat or slowing the process down. Then to top it off, we can top it off – literally, with the scratch off coating. Wow, right? It is no secret that Variable Data Printing is a perfect solution for producing the multiple versions needed for typical contests and promotions. It is not uncommon for the majority of offset printers to print the losing tickets offset and the smaller quantity of winning tickets digital. The slight variations make it possible to tell the difference between the two when they are side by side, without scratching anything off. By printing all pieces digital that problem is solved. Unlike traditional offset printing, digital printing can make changes on the fly so there is no need to stop and change out plates. The changes happen instantly as the sheets pass through the press and all tickets will have a uniform look and feel. The only hurdle in the past was the application of the opaque scratch off … Continue reading
