Flexpress Digital welcomes 2014

We have a confession. Having the new year fall in the middle of the week provided a nice way to ease back into the routine after the holidays, but we are actually excited to begin the first “full” work week of 2014. We know, it sounds crazy – and maybe even a little masochistic – but the truth is, the latter part of 2013 saw us adding a number of new presses and services and we can’t wait to rev them up and go! The big news, of course, is that we now have three Xerox iGen digital presses, and the newest addition is the biggest and fastest one yet. It can handle a whopping 14.33” x 26” sheet size with a printable area of 14” x 25.5”. It runs a speedy 150 pages per minute, making our quick turnarounds even quicker. The print quality is incredible, too, as it delivers improved detail and sharper images with even better color. We’ll save all the specs and a few of the details for another blog devoted just to this press. Believe us, it’s pretty special. To complement our big presses we’ve also upgraded to a new 4-color envelope press. It makes … Continue reading

Employee Spotlight: Kris L.

Employee Spotlight: Kris L.

This month our employee spotlight turns to Kris, one of the most positive, upbeat people we know. He is a great team player and a favorite co-worker in every department. In typical fashion, Kris willingly agreed to help us by taking time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions… with a smile. How long have you been with the company? I have been with Flexpress for 3 years now. But it feels like I just started a few months ago. How would you describe your duties here? I started in the bindery and I still pitch in there when needed. But I now handle the daily shipping, whether UPS, FedEx, USPS or couriers. I also assist Philip and Sandy up front from time to time and I help everyone if they have iPhone issues, especially in setting up their emails on them. What was the most unusual job you held before joining Flexpress? My first job I worked for Dominos Pizza. That was pretty interesting and an experience. I didn’t know how picky people were with pizza. LOL What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of my job is the interaction I have with … Continue reading

Employee Spotlight: David N.

Employee Spotlight: David N.

Once again it is time to shine the spotlight on one of our employees and let everyone get to know a little more about the great group we’ve got here at Flexpress. This month we visit with David, one of our longest-tenured employees. David has been with us for 19 of our 20 years in business! David was kind enough to share a moment with us as he went about his busy day of keeping our computer systems running smoothly – no small feat considering the high volume of projects we handle each day. What is your official title at Flexpress? Manager of support services What was the most unusual job you held before joining Flexpress? Picking coffee in Kenya. How would you describe your duties here? Serving internal and external customers. If you could switch jobs with one person at Flexpress for the day, who would it be? I would not want to switch but if I had to it would be Sales. People sometimes assume IT guys are computer geeks. Do you think of yourself in those terms? Not really, other than the fact that I have a 5 pc network, 4 laptops, 2 iPads, x2 wireless routers … Continue reading

custom printed golf ball packaging

Spring officially arrives March 20th. Warm weather and green grass beckon. For many people this means one thing: it’s time to hit the links. As tempting as it might sound to sneak out from work to play a few rounds, at Flexpress we are content to stay busy printing custom golf ball boxes. Personalized packaging is a great attention grabber and these custom boxes are perfect for any number of golf events, from charity golf tournaments to wedding party gifts or even private labeled for country clubs. They also make great fundraising items for school teams. The custom printed box can hold three golf balls and provides ample space to display your message. We can supply the template, or set up the art for you if you’d rather be golfing. Don’t worry, we won’t tell your boss a thing. Although we can’t join you on the golf course for a “business meeting” we will be more than glad to discuss any questions you may have, just email us at sales@flexpress.com or call 972.980.2631 at your convenience.

The ADDYs May Be Over, But the Winning Continues

The ADDYs May Be Over, But the Winning Continues

Between the showcase of real talent and faux mustaches, the AAF Fort Worth ADDY Gala was a festive evening last Saturday. Congratulations to all of the winners, with a special “shout-out” to Ardent Creative for winning Best of Show. We really enjoyed sharing a table and lots of laughs with members of your group. As Valet Sponsors we distributed gift bags at the end of the evening. In addition to a bottle of custom labeled water (we do those, you know) the goody bag also included a deck of cards with a special number on the outer box. There will be three winning numbers randomly drawn this week and posted here. If the number on your box matches the drawn number you win a $50.00 gift card to Mi Cocina. All you have to do to claim the prize is give us a call at 972.980.2631 or drop us a line at sales@flexpress.com with your contact info and your winning number. Show us the box when we drop off the gift card and that’s it, you’re all set for a nice meal! What is your official title at Flexpress? Front Desk Receptionist        How would you describe your duties at Flexpress? I would describe them as ACTIVE. Yes, active, as we are always moving, moving, moving and I don’t mind it one bit. This isn’t your regular receptionist job that requires you to just sit, enter data and answer calls. I like that I can move around from department to department helping wherever I am needed. My favorite part of the job is that we never have a dull moment. If you could switch jobs at Flexpress for the day, what would it be and why? That’s a tough question because every job is a challenge here. I would go with Pre-press. I want to know how the machines work. That would be beneficial to me so I can understand how long it takes to run jobs. What do you like to do outside of work? This one is easy. SHOPPING! That doesn’t mean I always buy things but I love the challenge of finding a great deal. Are there any organizations that you belong to? If so, how did you get involved with them? When I get the chance, … Continue reading

At times I am collating books, padding, inserting, tabs and binding, and other times I’m working the printers, running jobs and monitoring the machines. What is your favorite part of your job? The favorite part of my job would be the spontaneous goods and big potlucks we have about every month. I can never resist free food and desserts. What one thing would people be most surprised to find out about you? One thing I think people would be most surprised to find out is that I was in All District Choir. What do you like to do outside of work? When I’m not working, I love to relax and just hang out with friends. I also love dancing, filming, going to the gym and playing sports such as football and basketball. I understand you are in a dance group. How did you get interested in that? Personalized Messages Hit the Target

Personalized Messages Hit the Target

As marketing options continue to increase, the number of messages consumers receive each day is reaching critical mass. How can you stand out in this crowded field? Surprisingly, the best answer might be direct mail. This “old school” approach is actually favored by U.S. consumers, according to a recent survey by Epsilon Targeting. Not only does direct mail get high marks for the preferred method of receiving information, but also for the trustworthiness of the info received. A resounding 60% of those polled said they enjoying checking their mailboxes for postal mail.* It isn’t considered especially sexy or new by marketers, but the numbers indicate consumers do have an emotional bond to direct mail. Adding personalized messages via Variable Data Printing is a great way to further increase that connection. VDP is a process whereby copy and even graphics can be customized inline on digital presses while the job is being printed. This means a marketing piece can be adapted any number of ways to suit the individual recipient, creating a more one-to-one experience. It creates brand recognition and a memorable message because, honestly, who doesn’t like to be recognized and catered to? By targeting their interests and providing relevant … Continue reading

Looking Back and Looking Forward: 20 Years and Counting

Looking Back and Looking Forward: 20 Years and Counting

December marks our 20th year in business at Flexpress and we can’t help but marvel at the changes that have taken place since 1991. When we started, Johnny Carson was still the host of the Tonight Show; Michael Jordan was playing for the Chicago Bulls (the first time around) and The Silence of the Lambs was scaring the bejeebers out of us at the movies. The Soviet Union dissolved in 1991 but M.C. Hammer was Too Legit to Quit. On the technology front, Microsoft released MS-DOS 5.0 and Apple rolled out the PowerBook 100 as well as the Macintosh Classic II desktop computer that came with a 9-inch black and white screen and a choice of either a 40 or 80 MB hard drive. In August of 1991, Tim Berners-Lee introduced us to his “World Wide Web” web browser concept and the National Science Foundation made the Internet available for commercial use. One million forward thinking computer users jumped on the net that year and, odds are, they’ve never signed off. Things have certainly changed in the printing industry in the past 20 years as well. In 1991 most print jobs were still provided as paste up to traditional printers and … Continue reading

Do Good and Feel Good on Oct. 28th

Do Good and Feel Good on Oct. 28th

It isn’t uncommon for printers to be called upon to donate paper and printing for charitable causes. While pro bono printing is certainly one way to help, we know it is more fun and satisfying when everyone can pitch in and make a difference. It creates a “good energy buzz” to be around other like-minded people working towards a positive goal. That is why we are teaming with CitySquare for a Donation Drive on Friday, October 28, 2011. We will be collecting gently used clothing, housewares, electronics, furniture, and yes, even vehicles for the CitySquare Thrift Store. We will have a collection truck and attendant in our parking lot at 4410 Spring Valley Road in Dallas all day to make drop offs easy. If you can’t make it on the 28th but would like to drop your donations off beforehand we will be more than happy to store them until then. Why CitySquare? We believe they are one of the most effective non-profit outreach ministries in Dallas. Simply put, they don’t merely provide handouts, they address the root causes of poverty in Dallas and work on eliminating them through multiple channels. Among the services and programs provided are medical clinics/pharmacy, legal … Continue reading
